That was all a lie.

The rationale I gave was one that originated last year, the first time I was considering throwing around a second language for some arts credits.

My second-year German classes next year actually contribute credits to my degree. My current ones do not. Any more first-year courses do not (e.g. yet another intro language course).

I hate organic chem. I shouldn't even have passed intro organic chem. I totally bombed the organic-chem-esque question (which was worth something like 27% of the exam) on my materials chem exam two weeks ago.

The trick is being totally convincing by using mostly-truths ;)

I've realized that German's going to be too useless for my life in Finland (not that it's super-useful in Finland either, but whatever passes as an "official" language, works). I'll take SWED 111 and 112 next year. Yeah, it'll mean a few more chemistry courses (organic? I can handle it), but it's not that my German courses were counting towards my degree anyway.

Auf Wiedersehen Deutsch, hallå svenska!

Will edit as ideas come into my head.

Epic Maneuver [GLS] -> YTMND reference that Nick has mentioned on this LJ at some point in the past

Tuuli – The wind. The wind is an artist. Dancing grasses in fields. Songs in rustling leaves. Paintings in desert sands. In the raw, the wind can be powerful, even destructive. Wind can be as gentle as a refreshing breeze, yet can be as strong as a hurricane. But that intensity can be harnessed and put to good use. The artist that is the wind never ceases its work for any reason; it never tires; it is never exhausted.

Mustasydän – Black-heart. Black – the colour of my hair and the colour of my heart, tainted with the pain of death and resurrection. There was once an end to all hope, an end to all innocence; and in rebirth I was made into the wind - the artist that I am. Death renewed my senses, opening my eyes to the world and ending my naïveté.

But there was one thing that never died. And that one thing was music.

Am I getting a little too heavy with the NW-allusion ("End of All Hope," "End of Innocence," "Kuolema tekee taiteilijan (Death Makes an Artist)"...) in the second section that it sounds contrived? It honestly isn't contrived, but first impressions matter with those who have never known me. The KTT allusion could also be read as my interpretation of the song, which I suppose could be a good thing...

My first loyalty is to Finland. All things I love and worship shall be of her.

My second loyalty is to what I wish to become. No other, save the origin of that wish, is worthy of my faith. To no other shall I give my life, to no other shall I claim fandom, to no other shall I pledge allegiance.

My third loyalty is to music. It is my one true freedom, such that I will always have the power to choose my own, the power to make my own, and the power to love my own. It shall not be given unto me without permission, and shall not be taken away from me without permission. From this I began, and from this I will end.
