Dr. Sigurdson got the applause he earned at the end of yesterday's lecture.
Dr. Han, being absent, didn't.
Thursday the BSA (Business Students' Association) Year-End Beergardens in QUAD was rained out, but Friday was nice and sunny so it was up and all. It's not so pathetic that they would put on something like that, but that there were so many people lined up to get in I think the line went almost halfway around the fence.
When Dr. Osmanagic finished up the last review question he had time for, he just stopped writing and wrote "BEER TIME!" on the whiteboard, no "good luck and have a nice summer" comment or anything. Well, some students even left partway into class when they figured it would be a review - obviously they just wanted to be in the line-up to get in to beergardens.
Pfft.
In the afternoon I wandered over to
forgottenlord's room and I helped him paint one of the bricks outside his door. (Picture later when I either get one from
forgottenlord or I get my film developed.) Meanwhile, in one of the girls' wings, the girls were having a bit of a painting "party," you know, with some music on and stuff. Then I finished painting (went faster than I thought it would). They were still painting, despite having had a "midnight painting session" the night before.
As the afternoon dissolved into evening, the painting "party" evolved into a "painting" party, where there was more drinking going on than painting, and I had been sitting around in the lounge having dinner and watching TV for a little while. They were drinking because the year-end party for Lister residents was coming up later that night.
A group of girls dropped by the men's wing shortly before they left for the year-end party, they were pretty drunk and gawked/admired (not sure which) at my paint job, to which, seeing as I don't talk to drunk people, I could only respond with a bow.
After all, my goal was to make
forgottenlord's brick better than all of the other girls' bricks... combined. Should still be succeeding as of yet. Girls are sometimes so shallow. They may be arts students, but that doesn't say anything about their fine arts abilities.
P.S. I found the original recording by the Irish group Altan that Rajaton based their version of this song (see above) upon - the slow intro belongs to Altan (it's not part of the folk tune itself - I don't think so anyway). I've been fiddling around playing it on my tin whistle (I have a white D whistle, looks like they don't make them that colour anymore) for the last little bit.
Edit: I messed around with
forgottenlord's camera, but couldn't get a picture that was as good as the one he took last night (albeit it was at a bad angle so it was skewed). I did some not-very-elaborate Photoschlockage and here's the result. (Pending clearance to post name, but he once did mention that his name was so common I don't think he cares that much.)
(As I was coming in one of the girls (again?!) complemented me on my painting skills. In fact, practically the entire floor seems to be doing that. Maybe I did succeed.)
Forgottenlord's mention of the brick.
