Aug. 25th, 2007 04:47 pmThe person responsible for choir registration [the position I ran for] emailed everyone to ask that returning members let her know of our 'returning' status through a reply. I have emailed her saying that I can't tell her yet if I stay in choir or not this year...but that I'll tell her as soon as I find out... since this is an either/or sort of thing. It's either band or choir, but not both (I reasonably don't have time anyway, I'm already trying to take on more responsibilities than I have taken in the last few years).
I've asked the director if there was any... interesting (read: Finnish) repertoire this year and there wasn't any... this is a really important season for the choir because it's the 100th year of our university (and we're touring the province - not that I'd go along, anyway) but I don't find myself particularly piqued by the choral repertoire, and besides, I've gotten very tired of the closed cliqueishness and/or pretentiousness and/or social pressure of the entire organization.
I don't think I'll miss them terribly much, but I want to move on to something bigger, something where I can feel like I have at least a little control over my own destiny.
My sister keeps listening to CBC Radio One and they seem to play quite a bit of indie music on some of their programmes. And whenever I hear an artist being interviewed, I would wish I was there and ask myself how I'd answer the same question...
Sometimes I wonder how old the people in the band are. They speak of being back at school after Labour Day but that doesn't tell me anything (since high schools start a day before university). Or how good their keyboardist is. I mean, I won't want to flaunt my age or my piano skillz at them or anything but I guess I'm just curious.
