The cloth pouch I keep my iPod in was getting quite... holey, and I had already replaced the cords a little while ago, so I made a new pouch. 100% hand-stitching and fingernail creasing, heck, using needles as pins. Ow.

Gnomes

[also on BGG.]

I'd been returning again and again to the BGG page for Red November, because I like seeing big games in small boxes. But being unemployed, there's probably better things to be saving my money for than spending it on games that I'm too much of a loner to actually get people to play. Heck, I haven't even tried asking my flatmates - but it doesn't help much that they talk amongst themselves in their own language, which I don't understand.

But I caved and bought Red November today, and after "pimping" out the box with a foamcore insert (went waaaaaaaaaay out of my way to get supplies for *that*) and printing off some BGG reference sheets, I stumbled upon the photo of the painted gnomes on Bruno Faidutti's website (he's one of the designers), and I wondered why I didn't think of painting them.

I haven't significantly flexed my miniatures painting muscles since middle school - ever since by doing so it brought about the end of my pursuit of what led me to painting miniatures in the first place. But now I was inspired.

A bit picture-heavy? )

The end

And here are those final eight pages.

It's been fun, guys.

The Yläkaupungin yö page has been done for a looooong time, I just hadn't gotten to writing the blurb on it. I think it was done... before the Turku pages.

Edit: Added the completed front page too. I can sort of see the end now. It's about 8 pages away.

I'm a bit in the mood to write the "official" "one month later" essay, but I'm just a little worried that it'll tick off people like I did with "The Longest Road." Of course my sentiments toward the previously offended person have simmered down a bit, but even still...

As you can see I'm not done with the title page yet - when it's done it'll have a map and just a bit of text.

Foods

I heard that some of my friends might be coming into town on the weekend, so I rushed work on the food pages so that I'd have something to show them. They're a little sloppy, but oh well.

Pretty much all of the really important pages are already done anyway; I think the way-too-many-photos-of-sauna-stuff is the only essential section missing.

Helsinki stuff should be two more pages ("nifty old mansions along the railroad on the way to Linnanmäki", and "totally not enough photos of Linnanmäki"). See, there's so much of it even though I was only there for a week.

I've been putting off doing the remaining Uni stuff & sauna pics because it's just too much... argh-those-other-students.

Interesting Trivia:
Looks like our favourite photographer visited the flower exhibit in Turku the day before I was there. Photo 1 | Photo 2 | Photo 3

I think I'm losing it. It's a feeling of "lifelessness" to all this. Photos are but photos; memories cannot be reenacted.

This is so messed up[...] I'm tired of working on my photos because they lack...life and because they're only photos, the only reading material in my book and magazine collection I feel like reading is the stuff that I can't read, and I'm listening to American power metal. There is seriously something wrong.
[...]
As for the photos, it's a feeling of lifelessness, that I've already looked at these so much that they've become "dead" - devoid of fresh thoughts or memories. No, it's not even the memories and the stories and the images -- it's the physical sensations, the freedom, and all the experiences that are yet to come. That's what's bugging me, because in the end these will become "just photos" that make no sense to anyone but me because there were reasons and stories behind why I took or asked people to take most of them. And these reasons and stories we inevitably forget. The photos are no longer for me but for other people.

Okay, this coat of arms took me a full two-and-a-bit hours to draw. I don't like you anymore, Oboe Åbo, but your people are still awesome.

I got a pack of five more sheet protector thingums. This means 10 more pages. I'm not sure if that's "enough".

Two yesterday (appended to previous post), four today. The iiiiiiiiiitty-bitty coat of arms took for-freaking-ever to draw.

I definitely need a bazillion more pages. I still haven't done my HUUUUUUGE pile of Helsinki pictures (including one page of birds), Turku (at least two pages), modern side of Jyu, Yläkaupungin yö / Culture stuff, Interesting Foods, and the School Lunch collection. And the karaoke page, and Kiviniemi sauna. I feel like I'm gonna be cutting and pasting forever. My average number-of-photos-per-page seems to be plummeting too.

Here's some more pages. I feel "productive" today. I guess the need to finish telling the 'long night' story made me finish up those pages.

I also feel that I probably need to go buy another package of pages; 30 pages won't be enough...

Well, due to the need for some damage control regarding the previous post, here's some less potentially offensive stuff.

Got a lot of my photos printed yesterday; started working on a scrapbook - none of the fancy-shmancy scrapbook stuff with the stickers and the decorations, but the simple unembellished kind. Almost high-school yearbook-like, but hey, I have prior experience with that.

Everything fits very tightly to the pages because I'm working on 8.5x11 instead of the large-format 12x12. I feel kinda bad that there's a lot of photos that I printed which I realize aren't really good at all or are redundant so there'll probably be at some point a conventional photo album of the photos "from the cutting room floor." And an appendix-like section at the back of the scrapbook for the more artistic photos I couldn't fit onto the pages.

And if anyone complains that there aren't enough photos of Other People™, that's their problem. There's at least one photo of each of the online friends I met there (except [livejournal.com profile] fakiiri). Aside from that, I travelled mostly alone, so what do you expect? There's a lot of photos of my roommate, but even so she didn't like having photos taken of her.

Figure 2. Completed pages so far. I haven't put the pages in order but they will be when I'm done with all of them.
