RAKASTAN RAJATON!!!

WHEEEE!!!!!

AIIEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Ooookies

I'll try to calm down

But I don't think I can

I mean, this was officially a "Drop Everything And Go" event for me.

My favorite songs were Lintu lauleli lehossa (from the Kanteletar - "This is in very old language, so you may not understand all of the words...we don't either."), Venelaulu (from their very-soon-to-be-released album "Kevät"), Butterfly, and their encore, Kaipaava (this song is almost tribal in the way they sang it, but oh so gloomy at the same time. Apparently it was commissioned by the Cantilon choirs).

It was really funny when Virpi started singing the words "you can't stop me" (apparently it's one of their songs) over and over again (this was the encore before Kaipaava) and the rest of the ensemble pretended to get bored and started wandering off the stage after a bit, and then later they all came back and shouted "stop!" and then she stopped. Or the part when Jussi did an entire beatboxing riff, starting with "Ed. Mon. Ton." and "Win. Spear." and evolving from there.

Anyway, they were at the end of their North American tour so they didn't have any of their CDs left to sell. :( Instead I conveniently snuck backstage (behind some of the organizers who were going back there to take them out for dinner) and got their autographs on my ticket stub AND my program. I'm going to frame that tomorrow when I buy a frame.

Um, I'm still really hyper.

OMG I TALKED TO REAL FINNISH PEOPLE!!

Edit: One of my fellow Mixed Choristers had sent out a message on the UAMC mailing list about this on Sunday (although I had heard about it before then), and as the crowds cleared (a.k.a. when I came back out from getting autographs) she found me and she said "I knew that out of everybody in Mixed Chorus I knew you were definitely going to be here." (That's how known I am for these things over in the alto section.) Then I saw the singers come out into the lobby and I directed her in their direction.

I've found the entire "Boundless" album, which I heard from fellow concertgoers is arguably the best of them all. :)

They said that "Venelaulu" would be on their newest CD, "Kevät," which is going to be released this week (over in Finland, of course, nothing ever really gets released here properly). Check it out :P
