The life of an engineer-in-training *sigh*

Saturday
  • choir rehearsal 1000-1230
  • choir murder mystery rehearsal 1300-1500
  • dinner with boyfriend 2000 (it's our one-month anniversary, haha)
  • take a shower (seriously I haven't showered for a week)
  • boyfriend to treat me to a beer (he helped me sketch out in not-so-pseudocode how to go about doing my C++ assignment and at the bottom of his outline he wrote (he knows about my objection)):
    //you're done - get drunk a beer
Sunday
  • calculus review for midterm 1200-1500
Homework
  • Linear Algebra (only one question left, so I'm almost done)
  • Dynamics (I'm totally dreading this)
  • Chemistry prelab assignment (lab on Hess' Law)
  • Essay on engineering ethics (really simple, it's just articulating what I want to say that is difficult)
  • finish '1337-ifying' the comment codes on C++ assignment (the program is done, though)
Other
  • write résumé and complete application form for next year's new student orientation leader position
  • write short proposal about alternative dining spaces on campus
  • buy TP (bf seems intent on picking this up for me tomorrow though)
  • hang around with boyfriend

ENGG 101 blurbs don't count as essays.

Glad to hear you're applying for an OL position; it's a lot of fun. Not that I'd know firsthand - I was just a presenter.

To you it might not be an essay, but I take such opportunities seriously.

I won't be doing actual OL-ing, I think. There's too much cheering that goes on and I'm already losing the hearing in my right ear (seriously). And I definitely wouldn't call it fun. If, in the off-chance I actually had to lead students around, I would give them the truth, none of the rah-rah-engineering, rah-rah-let's-yell-our-brains-out -- since that was what made me lose my hearing. I would also have to find a way to not attend (the kids can, I can't) the president's address to fully avoid damaging my hearing any more.

as an impromptu ear plug. I've used it on the rifle range and on stage often. It sure beats the heck out of going deaf.

I have no intent on encouraging my... group members to partake in such displays of pride ;) so I'd intend to set an example for them :P

All in all, protect your hearing. Take this from someone with a 40% hearing loss in both ears. It isn't fun. Although, mine stems from a scuba diving accident, it would be a lot worse had I not protected them on-stage and on-range.

and to think, a month ago you were edgy about using the terms girlfriend/boyfriend :P

The essay might take you a few hours, Dynamics isn't due till thurs so you don't need to freak out entirely about it (a few questions and just looking at the rest would probably be good), and you're still over a week ahead in C++ (plus you're going to have MORE than enough opportunities to do "productive procrastination" or wahtever the term is) so you don't need to set aside time from that. So pretty much your biggest issue with the prelab. Total time (not including essay because I REALLY can't gauge how long that'll take you knowing you): 4 hrs. I doubt the essay will take you more than an hour and a half and I hope it won't take you more than 3 so probably 5.5-7 hrs of homework there. You're ahead of me.

Let's say it takes you an insanely long time to get motivated to take the shower and that whole procedure takes 1hr. You have 4 hrs (heck, let's just say you only utilise 3) to do homework in that time frame (if you want, I can get that shopping which you forgot to mention for you so you aren't as stressed out about time). That leaves about 2.5-4 hrs to fit in between 3-midnight (estimated bedtime). Resume probably won't take you more than an hour (I can probably help you with that) and application form will probably take even less time (we'll say an hour for ease of calculation). That 6hrs as a high estimate to fit into 9. 3 hrs left to do proposal - and that's assuming you do nothing between dinner and the review.

The hard part will probably be motivating yourself....

Oh the thought of motivation - *sigh.* Maybe if you got me something that I can shoot people with it'd make me happier.

(and that 1 hour estimate for the motivation for the shower is probably as accurate as it gets)

and I mean, darn it - I really want to put FYEC on my résumé but I don't even have a title and we haven't done anything all year anyway.

Oh - I'm also feeling inclined to do less "productive procrastination" because of the state my computer is in - it's also why I've been kinda dreading the idea of having to write a couple of pieces of writing on there :(
