Day 2.1 Chances

kyrasantaeI got in at noon after seeing the doctor and the boss brought in a new name tag and a drill for me - it's still not exactly a straight one but it's smaller and fits my hand better, at least. I haven't had the need to try it out yet, though.
The new guys showing up today was a good thing in general, I think, given that they were more chatty and friendly and eager. One's an education student and the other is studying industrial design.
He then talked to us all as a "meeting", in which he gave us all a sheet detailing what everybody's role is supposed to be and yes, it includes "respect" and "positive feedback", but I left the paper at work. He stressed that it was better to take things slowly and do it well rather than too quickly and sloppily, because, after all, the rest of the construction hasn't been able to keep up with us anyway. He asked us if there were any tips and tricks we wanted to share with the group, special difficulties, comments about us working together, and had us all give one compliment to someone else about something they did.
So I managed to get some of it off of my chest as politely as possible. It was hard, but I did it without being too specific: about there being more than one way to do things and being open to those other ways, and helping people understand what the problem is before suggesting what to do to fix it.
She was all like "if you have problems please don't hesitate to talk to me, even if it's about me" but to be honest, I'm not really all that comfortable talking to her. It takes time to heal wounds.
She seemed to be trying to be super nice today, saying "please" and "thank you" and stuff. The boss had me sort out everything in the spare part bins since I couldn't work TOO hard because of my fingers, but then she actually thanked me. I think nobody really cares that I sorted the Allen keys into trays for each of 3, 4, 5, and 6mm width ones. And labelled them.
I only ended up with half a shift because of this morning, but at least it was without negative incident. The boss took us out to show us one of the pieces that had bad assembly and the nails were showing, and in a whisper I was told that SHE was the one who did it ;)
