Oops, I was getting really disjointed previously because I practically fell asleep on my book. It's now 0700 and it's nice and sunny today. Last night I went to a bar called "Cheers" with some of the other students. I left early (2320) with a girl from Slovenia, and I don't know how long the others stayed. Thankfully, no NW videos played on the music channel that was on the TVs there. At one point the owner of the bar must have heard us talking in English about American politics and came by to give us a loud welcome. I prioritized my laws and tried a shot of salmiakkikossu (4€). It smelled really badly of the liquorice, but was actually very syrupy and sweet. But now that I've tried it, never again unless it's bought for me :P

The only thing that the other (N. American) students have on their mind today is going to the pub tonight, trying to figure out where to get booze and where to get together to drink it before going. All this put me in a really melancholy sort of mood today. So after class and the brief tour of the oldest part of campus, Lukas from Poland was looking for the post office, so I helped him find it and ended up going shopping again. I bought a pile of cheap postcards from a bargain bookshop (or so it seems) and they're all aerial photos, but one is really hilarious because it's essentially just a picture of the only supermarket in town. Imagine if there was a postcard of Vancouver or something and the only item in the foreground and the majority of the photo was a [Real Canadian] Superstore and it's parking lot. That's how funny it is.

I was starving after this, so we looked for a restaurant but wasn't sure where to go, so we went to the Chinese restaurant I saw yesterday. The owner was Asian and the music that was playing was Cantonese, so I asked if he spoke Chinese, because the menu was only in Finnish and ingredient-list-type English and I didn't recognize all that much from lists like that. Fortunately he did speak Cantonese. I got some fried rice (12€) and Lukas wasn't hungry, so I took some home. Notes to self: remember - seat yourself, and water costs money but is cheap. Yeah, restaurant food is expensive. I don't know if it's customary, but the menu had a section of items at a discount for uni students with a school ID card. But as summer students we only get a paper that gets us a partial discount at some of the cafeterias on campus.

I left a Bookcrossing book on a chair in the cafeteria yesterday. Today the book was on a counter near the newspaper stacks. As I ate lunch, I watched as a Finnish girl pick it up, look at it, then take it to her lunch at the other end of my table. Then she opened it in the middle to try it out, and then I watched her read the cover label, then eat lunch while still flipping through it, then finally putting it in her bag.

My feet are so tired today I know they are blistering. TOO MUCH walking with so much on my shoulders.
