all this weighs so heavily on my mind.

How long will it be until even my homeland is no longer a safe haven from the ill plague of American moral evils? And then - where is there left to run?

I must save my people from the evil false reputations that will befall them.

Edit: It is highly unlikely for me that any tragedy in the news affects me; and I think now we understand what it is for something to "strike close to home". My home.

It was difficult to come up with a phrase to describe the ... kind of extremist attitudes that have caused so many a similar event in North America. The unsettling feeling in my mind also stems from my pacifism and total hatred of guns, especially shooting them as a hobby - which is probably only most easily associated with the American gun rights stuff. (Seriously, if I wanted to cause mass murder and mayhem, I'd run around with a katana. It's a more elegant solution.)

In any case, I refuse to get into the politics of the matter; I have rather unique moral convictions that I dare not attempt to justify with reason.

The American "we have 'em and you're never taking them away and we hate how liberals want us to give them up/antagonize us for having them" thing seems more unique to that culture though.

I prefer not to reason them out because most of them are intuitive convictions. (One of my friends is actually writing a philosophy paper on how beliefs don't necessarily need to be justified by the person holding them - though a justification does exist, it's just not necessary for the holding of said belief.)

I avoid all political/economic subjects. I also avoid debate. I do not avoid the *sharing* of alternate moral points of view, so long as it does not become heavy-handed and persuasive.

I don't remember where I ganked it. I normally use it on MSN for Itsenäisyyspäivä but it's nice to have it come in handy elsewhere.
