Forgive me when, the shadows show
To take the living from the glow
The time has come to turn the page
And exit from this soulless stage

In memory, a silent play
Whose curtains, drawn, will close the day
Behind the veil of empty night
Starlit soldiers will pause their fight

Watch with me by, as eagles call
My name from clifftops high and tall
The silent shores of oceans, borne
On waves the tide will drown the lorn.

Remember me, for spirits die
When left on battlefields to cry
The one whose sorrows, burned by fires
Were made of dreams and heart's desires.

The wonderful thing about Rajaton's singing is that their English is remarkably clear. Here's a song from their new album, "Out of Bounds." I absolutely *love* the original Finnish version, though. I think this song sort of illustrates the difficulty of fitting English words to the natural rhythm of Finnish.

Vanishing Act (to the tune of 'Kivinen tie')
Music & original lyrics: Soila Sariola / English lyrics: Stephen Hatfield

Crying shouldn't hurt
It won't take a minute
You that seek pardon
Better pray all you can

Time is like a poison
Like a deceiver
Give me a taste
And I'll vanish like sand

Cry, cry, recover
When I feel any truth it's then
Bye, bye, my lover
First I'll breathe in then out again

When you call, you can hear a voice
Go echoing backwards
Soon to be repeated
And recklessly planned (? - okay, so they're not *always* easy to understand.)

Who knows me like a book
And corners me, it's easy
Just keep your place
Or I'll vanish like sand

Cry, cry, recover
When I feel any truth it's then
Bye, bye, my lover
First I'll breathe in then out again

Who made the truth
Better like what she tells you
Master your heartbeat
And betray all you can

Time is like a blessing
I'm a believer
Light me a candle
And I'll burn your hand

Cry, cry, recover
When I feel any truth it's then
Bye, bye, my lover
First I'll breathe in then out again

Had a little difficulty with this one. Not sure of some of the words. English version of another of my favourites. The English lyrics really work well with the chorus.

Salty Water (to the tune of 'Venelaulu')
Music & original lyrics: Markku Reinikainen / English lyrics: Stephen Hatfield

Feel the mist coming on
The last part of the day
I've been driving through my tears
You know why

Where could that ocean be
I can't have lost that voice
You cool and salty breeze
Louder

Waves flow, mountain high
Chase the moon across the sky
Let the rain come carry me
Onward

Wash off yesterday
Make the trees bow down my way
That man sadder than
Salty water

So where do lost people go
We surely love to drive
Me and the sea ever sad
Old master

Feel the mist coming on
It's work to be alive
You cool, salty breeze
Faster

Waves flow, mountain high
Chase the moon across the sky
Let the rain come carry me
Onward

Wash off yesterday
Make the trees bow down my way
That man sadder than
Salty water

Waves flow, mountain high
Chase the moon across the sky
Let the rain come carry me
Onward

Wash off yesterday
Make the trees bow down my way
That man sadder than
Salty water

Feel the mist coming on
The last part of the day
I've been driving through my tears
You know why

"Snow"

This is the last of the three 'translated' songs on this album. I believe this one is closer to a translation than the two previous.

Before I forget, Rajaton's also coming to Edmonton again in October. Guess who's already got that marked on their calendar? I want to get one of my CDs autographed this time, now that I actually have them. They'll probably actually have some of their stuff to sell at this concert, since it'll be their first stop in Canada this time (after a series of concerts in Germany). They're also singing in Vancouver in August, but I'll be taking classes here :(

Snow ('Lunta')
Music & original lyrics: Teemu Brunila (The Crash) / English lyrics: Anders Edenroth (The Real Group)

Deep in the night when stars up above glow
I'm sound asleep, you open my window
Riding the gentle wind like a shadow

I see how you appear
See now when you're near
That you're only made of snow
Only made of snow
Lonely is my heart when only you are snow

For long did I wait, consoled by the starlight
Before you came back to me after midnight
I long for my love, and colour the sky white

I see how you appear
See now when you're near
That you're only made of snow
Only made of snow
Lonely is my heart when only you are snow

If we ever would touch, like tears you would melt away
If we ever touched, like tears you would melt away

I see how you appear
See now when you're near
That you're only made of snow
Only made of snow
Lonely is my heart when only you are snow

was the thought that brought the Awakening...

...not as new as I believe it to be?

"Yet in my fantasies I could never be wrong. I was always the hero. I could play God if I wanted to. So when that outlet was taken away in the Cataclysm I was left with nowhere to hide from reality and turned to madness."

Cataclysm <=> Sundering. Same thing.

*shudder*

Right.

So I got sent this song at 7:20, and recorded this about an hour later. It's really rough... it's quite a a very challenging song, but here we go anyway.

Sonata Arctica - "Full Moon" (2.4MB)

Edit: Another version (2.5MB), transposed up a note... I like how I do the beginning in this version, but the rest really sucks. I keep throwing the ends of phrases.

Another Edit: Dark Chest of Wonders clip remake (1.8MB). It still sucks cuz I'm sick of this song, but it's got a bit more energy than the old one.

The day after edit: After some practice. (2.5MB)
