Busy week - quick recap
Dec. 1st, 2004 11:27 pmThis week was basically a really big week for choir stuff, so in between doing performances and homework I haven't had time to post anything. I haven't even gotten around to start studying for exams yet!!
Friday: Finished my ENGG130 homework just before 11pm, when the CivE building (where I need to hand it in) closed. I needed to do this because, as usual, I didn't want to have to wake up well in advance of my 9am class on Monday to hand it in. I had about 20 minutes before the place closed, so I walked there, only to find the doors locked. So I ran around like crazy trying all the doors. Some people who were leaving the building let me in, but the door to the second floor stairwell was also locked. Fortunately the janitors were just about to leave at the moment as well, and they unlocked it for a moment so I could drop my homework into the box. Went to bed at 1.
Saturday: Got up to catch the 8am carpool to Strathern United Church for dress rehearsal. My driver (Brandon) got lost, so that we got there at 9am (when we were supposed to get there) when it was only really supposed to be a 15 minute drive. Dropped off at Safeway on the way back, so I got groceries and a pair of black nylons - needed them for concert attire. Went to E3C (Edmonton Chinese Christian Church) Coffee House - great show, very entertaining, until during one of the skits they accidentally knocked my table over, spilling water and fruit punch and candlewax and salad dressing over my friends. Hilarious parody of rap song "My Band." I liked how the show touched a bit on some of the themes I had been thinking about (people who just go and get drunk all the time, being pressured to conform to a lifestyle that maybe just isn't for them, and the question of why don't people take advantage of the belief that sins are forgiven). Went to bed at 1:30.
Sunday: Performed at Advent church service. Very nice to experience what happens at church. Lots of sandwiches to eat after, so I packed some to take home for the next couple of days when I might not have time to cook meals. Wasted all afternoon playing computer games because I really didn't feel like doing any math homework. Don't remember when I went to bed.
Monday: Deferred physics lab until tomorrow, needed to get to big performance at Winspear Centre (big but not quite as big as Jack Singer in Calgary) - it's really really fun to stand and sing from the choir loft. Got ride from Brandon to Boston Pizza after; ate garlic twist bread and we left before those other kids got high on pints of beer and whatever other drinks they were having. Slept later tonight - 2am?
Tuesday:I actually made it to chem class today (for the first time in what, a month? More?). Too bad my prof was in Boston and the substitute was so boring I think half of the class was either asleep or drifting off (myself included). I guess my body chose a bad time to drift off (I could still hear him talking but it was just words going through my head) - just when a handout was going around, so Kate had to poke me awake. It's alright, it's all stuff that I did last year in Chem 30. Lots of people dozing off in ENGG130 as well, I tried to keep myself awake that class, mostly because I actually *need* to pay attention or I won't understand the material. (Actually, I never really understand it, I just do it).
Turns out I didn't need to attend the 12pm math lab session after all (but I did...), since my physics lab TA's Tuesday session is actually the evening one from 6-9pm. So I could have gone to math lab with the other kids in my class at the regular 2pm. Tried to get motivated and do math after lab. Was more or less successful, partially because the questions were not as difficult as they normally were.
Today: Finished math homework, handed in. Sang at the Legislature. Ralphie Klein says he's proud to have been more environmentally conscious by installing LED Christmas lights for the light display instead of regular bulbs, because it saves energy. All of us tried to withhold a giggle at that point. Very echoey in there, makes us sound really pretty. It's all decorated really pretty too - I was thinking of bringing my camera but I forgot, so I guess I'll have to remember next year. Lots of media people there, I wonder if anyone saw me on the news? I was in the front row. Remind self to check newspapers at the convenience store tomorrow to see if any good photos of us made it in. Sang short gig at some alumni dinner. Went to Doan's Vietnamese restaurant with Wayne (silly engineers...), Liz, and a couple others for dinner afterwards. Expensive stuff (we ordered 5.5 dishes - only a half order of salad rolls - Wayne ordered 牛肉炒芥蘭 - silly Wayne! You may be Chinese but don't be so cheap, uh, pricey cheap stuff! - totalled somewhere around $80. Then again a couple of them had coffee).
Now I'm here. And I'll need to get some physics assignment stuff done tonight, since (again) I won't have all that much time tomorrow for them. I mean, I'd not do it at all because it's not worth a lot of our grade, and physics homework is always really challenging, but I kinda want every single teeny bit of a mark I can get above 0, so I might as well give every question a bit of a try. I usually don't do particularly well on physics homework, and it really sucks too.
