Real Work - An Interrupted Introduction
Jul. 6th, 2007 05:33 pmI phoned up the store this afternoon in an effort to find out what the heck was going on. I don't think Sheila picked up the phone when my call was transferred to the office, but whatever. I told the lady on the phone my name, that I was a new hire, and I had done my 5 computer tutorials and I was wondering when I needed to come in again.
"You're overnight?"
"Yep."
"Can you come in tonight?"
"When?"
"11."
Oh. "When can I expect to be done?"
"7... your duty manager's name is Nicole and she'll give you your schedule and have you do 90 minutes of [computer tutorials] tonight and then get you on the floor. I hope that wasn't too short notice!"
My sister just applied to be a part-time tutor at her university next year. That's a 3-hours-a-week job and it pays $13/hr for sitting around in the academic centre waiting for students to show up with homework problems.
*sigh*
