Well! I must say that I'm pleased that since I didn't apply for a customer service job at Wal-Mart this time, they didn't ask me those crazy personality profile questions like last time. The interview lady asked me 5 things (I think):
  1. Given your shopping experience at Wal-Mart, is there anything you think could improve?
  2. What are you expecting from Wal-Mart as an employer?
  3. Are you comfortable with working alone?
  4. What would you do if someone came up to you with a problem?
  5. What would you do if you got into an argument with someone?
Standard answers applied there, I think :-)

The store seemed pretty desperate for overnight staff, and so I had applied for overnight stocking. The lady already had my wage rate written down on the contract paper even before she started asking questions so it was pretty obvious they actually *were* desperate. I don't really know if $11.50/hr +shift differential is a result of the labour demand in the city (which is insane right now) or of the nature of the job (graveyard shift, manual labour).

I was also scheduled for an interview with Inkjet Refills tomorrow, but the person who called me about it made it really clear up-front that it'd be a rather boring and low-paying job (and would involve the occasional dealing-with-customer work) so I'm confident that I'd prefer to work graveyard at Wal-Mart over that. I'm going to call to cancel that interview right now because I'll be at training at Wal-Mart at that time tomorrow anyway.

Once I figure out what's gonna happen at work and stuff I'm going to consider investing in an iPod or MP3 player so I can have some music to pass the time :)

What's shift differential? Hopefully it amounts to something significant because you can make way more than $11.50 doing similar work on night shifts elsewhere.

It's supposed to be an extra dollar an hour. To be honest, I don't really care how much I'm making, it's my first *real* job, after all - and I really don't want to be doing anything involving dealing with peoples of the general public, like answering phones at hotel reception desks. Also, I can walk to work, which saves on transportation costs alone.

Fair enough. Good luck with the new gig. :)

Well done!

sadly I'm not even sure what they want as the answers to those standard questions anymore
though I am working at one of them NOW, it's not yet a job. I'll be applying somewhere after this temp work gets me a car so I can get out there myself.
