Rajaton concert number 2
Oct. 4th, 2006 12:12 am(last time.)
There was no programme handed out, so here is the set list (with a few missed names generously filled in by Essi with consultation from Hannu) with the albums the songs are from.
1. O Wondrous Time (English version of "Oi aika ihanin" from Nova)
2. Kivinen tie (Kevät)
3. Poison Tree (Boundless)
4. How Little (Out of Bounds)
5. Head Over Heels (ABBA cover, on their ABBA album coming November)
6. Under Pressure (Queen cover)
7. Mitä kaikatat kivinen? (Nova)
8. We Walk in a Fog (feat. Kokopelli Youth Choir) (English version of "Me kuljemme kaikki kuin sumussa" from Nova, as performed on Out of Bounds with The Real Group)
9. Were You There? (feat. Kokopelli Youth Choir) (Sanat)
=
10. Pakkanen (unreleased)
11. Snow (Out of Bounds, English version of "Lunta" from Kevät)
12. Un-Wishing Well (Boundless)
13. Lintu lauleli lehossa (Nova)
14. Joulun neiet (Joulu)
15. Fernando (ABBA cover, Joulu DVD, also on ABBA album)
16. Lady Madonna (Beatles cover) (Boundless)
17. Dobbin's Flowery Vale (Boundless)
=
Encore 1: Ticket to Ride (Beatles cover)
Encore 2: Butterfly (Boundless)
Their luggage got lost on the way here, so they didn't have a change of clothes during the intermission and had to use sound equipment borrowed from the Winspear instead of their own.
Soila did an awesome "guitar/bass" "solo" during Ticket to Ride. I have photos. Later.
At the end, Jussi wanted to advertise that there were CDs on sale outside, but they were already sold out after intermission.
It's too bad that almost half of the set list was the same as last time.
Some back-and-forth-ness follows:
I decided to buy the Christmas DVD during the intermission before it ran out. Hey, no tax. The Gramophone provided the CDs to sell at the concert, and they only brought about 2 copies of the DVD because it's PAL-encoded and not too many people would be able to watch them on their DVD players around here. Fortunately I checked the back and it's Region 0. Whoohoo Jussi beatbox video! :D
The guy from the Gramophone also noted that Rajaton has a distributor in Canada now, so they won't be the only store stocking their discs around town in the future.
I noticed that "Nova" is now issued in a jewelcase instead of a digipack (they had some of both there). The booklet in the jewelcase is also really nice, because it's now in colour instead of b&w (well, they had to work in the rest of the graphics and photography from the digipack cover). I wonder if it still has the translated lyrics like the old version does.

Anyway, I happened to sit next to the director of Kokopelli. Very friendly guy who rocked out to most of the songs, but when he and his choir went up to sing with them, I felt so envious I was angry and wanted to cry.
Then in the intermission I met up with some Mixed Chorus peeps, who were hanging out with another Kokopelli guy. I talked about how much I wanted to be on stage like he was:
"Then join Kokopelli." (Duh.)
"I'm already in Mixed Chorus..."
"Well yeah, that's cuz auditions for Mixed Chorus are for voice placement only."
Thanks for insulting my singing ability. I wanted to punch him in the face (which I narrowly did after that).
I think I'm definitely starting to get a little jaded by this whole singing thing. I want it too much.
After the concert I raged and vented to Ian (from chorus, he's the one who brought up the concert on the UAMC mailing list this time) while waiting to get my stuff autographed. Then I started crying while in line. They were all properly set up at a table this time, obviously because they actually had stuff to sell today.
I wish they had their t-shirts though, but I wouldn't have had enough cash to get the DVD and a shirt. In theory I could have just bought the DVD at the Gramophone at another time, but hey, it was there so I could get it signed too. (I had brought the CD tray liner from "Kevät" to have autographed, it's the most perfect blank space for that sort of thing, because afterwards it'll be protected by the CD tray.)
Got those blanks in the set list filled in while holding up the line, even though the line moved quite quickly overall anyway :D
And then Ian gave me a ride back :)

Last time I came out happy and stunned and filled with energy.
Now it is only envy, sadness, and ever the more desperation.
I gave them a conglomerate poem from stuff that was in my notebook on a page torn out of my notebook. I told them they could do whatever they wanted with it; it had my email address on the bottom. On the back (or should I say, front, because the poem is on the back) there's a sort of gypsy/folk-style sketch of an alternate logo for them. I drew it really quickly before the concert. I still have the draft copy of it (I made two), I'll scan it sometime.
They have done songs from poems written by children. They can do it again. Who knows?

Addendum: During the wait for autographs, some members of Cantilon (the other choir that sponsored the previous concert) got together and started to sing "Kaapaiva" (see comments). I wanted to join in but for two reasons I didn't: 1. I was too far away from them where I was in line, so I couldn't exactly hear; and 2. I honestly haven't listened to the song for months so I didn't really remember the lyrics.
