Piano tyme
Jun. 30th, 2006 02:58 pmWell well well...though the (even cheaper than the one I have in my dorm room) microphone on my home computer really really really really really sucks for vocal recordings, it does better for piano recordings than the other one. Even though I can't do anything about the crackling. Or maybe it's just a bigger room and a better piano (full size Yamaha grand. Not concert size like 6 feet, but not much smaller than that)...
So I recorded a bunch of stuff again (and some new fiddling around).
- Sleeping Sun (again) [Sheet music] - I haven't practiced it nearly as much these days, so I don't play it as well as I did on my previous recording. Erm...one of my pages fell off the piano at the end of the first chorus.
- Magistra Nocte [Sheet music] - Something new for a change. This is a strict transcription to the best of my ability.
- Kuolema tekee taiteilijan in the correct key! It's not as polished as the old version though, partly because I still haven't fully transposed my cue sheet.
Some fiddling around (please bear with me, as there's a lot of pounding on wrong notes and trying to find notes and other nonsense, but there are some nice bits here and there. Think of these as if they were... shall I say... jam sessions.):
- Yesterday I read that TH considers Bless the Child the most difficult song for him to play. I don't disagree. It's not a test of virtuosity, but a friggin' test of endurance and, if the other part isn't done as playback when it's performed (I wouldn't know), a friggin' test of coordination. Here's some messing around on that theme, though I don't actually do the correct rhythm in the left hand until the last 10 seconds of the file though (just as a demonstration). But you get the idea.
- Here's what Hiljaisen talven lapsi sort of sounds like when I play it. I've still been too lazy to write out the two guitar solos, so I improvise in those parts. It works, more or less.
