Um, okay.

Um, some stuff happened on my floor last night. I can't really say all that much more than that because all I heard was the bickering and some talking about water and a couple of guys racing down the hall. There was also a mysterious knocking on my door, and since I didn't see anyone outside my peephole, I responded by locking my door. At least this time the knocking wasn't an auditory hallucination.

I had known it was going to be crazy last night because Eddie had been planning (uh, "planning," because it's supposed to be "spontaneous," else paperwork and rules get involved) a beach party since last week. I just didn't think it was going to be *this* bad...

[livejournal.com profile] forgottenlord's statement (annotated by me):

I leave Kyrasantae's room at about 1am. A lot of people were bickering in the hallway by the elevators. I ran into one of my former floormates (now Kyrasantae's floormate) who had apparently checked in on the party at the wrong time. He had been there initially, saw it was getting a bit wild and decided to leave. A few hours later, he popped in. This time, the pool had been......emptied onto the floor1. He wandered around for a bit, surveying the damage, then turned to leave, only to find an LCA (Lister Community Assistant) standing in the doorway.

To his relief, the LCA realized he was dry and only wrote him down as a witness.

In our time discussing the aftermath (including a discussion with David2 about responsibility), the LCA's brought up a carpet clearner to get what water they could out of the room. They also hauled the pool and its left over contents (about 1/4 of what it originally held) to the kitchen, and emptied it - almost flooding the sink in the process.

When I walked past the lounge about half an hour later, all the chairs, couches, tables and whatnot had been stacked on the far side to minimize the floor space used. The room was still being "carpet cleaned" at the time. When I walked by it this morning, it was cordoned off - no one's allowed to use it until further notice.

To say the least, the LCAs were ticked. Depending on who you ask, anywhere from 27 to 35 people were written up overnight.

A bit of history about Pool Parties in Lister. Apparently, it isn't as uncommon as I had originally thought. Last year, there was a Pool party on both 2 Kelsey and Main Mac. The one on Main Mac was actually done by the Executive of the Lister Hall Students Association. Apparently, they too had flooded the washroom they were using and the water also seeped into a nearby room. Unlike this pool party, when the water leaks, it stays on that floor. As a few people pointed out, the other towers are made out of cement, Schaeffer is made out of drywall, etc. As such, the water leaked to a floor below.3

1 David recalls that a girl from 7K who took a step into the pool, then slipped, thus tipping the pool over and spilling it. Word is that word of the party had spread to the other residence towers and some people had come to join in, which is why the party got really wild. David also says that our RA had told the partyers that he was going to turn a blind eye to this and had reminded the partyers to act responsibly before the party got going.
2 David is an exchange student from München. He did party with the group for a little while. One of the things that really ticked him off was the apparent taking of everything for granted around here - that includes laundry facilities, a central place to buy textbooks, getting a good education, etc. He was also ticked at how nobody wanted to take responsibility for the mess: "In Germany me and my friends would have tried to clean some of it up ourselves." We talked also about how drinking shouldn't be about drinking to the point of hangover but to socialize. Stuff like that. He's in my philosophy class.
3 Jon said "There is a garbage can in the middle of Red Lounge on 6. What do you think it's for?"

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] forgottenlord's computer is busted (it won't boot), so he's spent quite a bit of the weekend in my room doing his readings and his homework. Which bothers me because it's MY computer.

Yesterday, I played Carcassonne with Mitch (VP Henday Hall) and some of his friends. Mitch has all of the Carcassonne expansions (except the rare "The Cathars" one), while I had just bought the 3 big boxed expansions (Inns and Cathedrals, Traders and Builders, The Princess and the Dragon) last week. I was overwhelmed with homework this week and when I had accomplished my goal of finishing two assignments yesterday, I placed an order for the two small box expansions (King and Scout, The Count of Carcassonne), a game called Meuterer, and a copy of the expansion to Puerto Rico for Mitch. This will complete my collection of base Carcassonne sets, since I will be getting a copy of The Cathars in the mail as soon as Esteis finishes writing his pen pal letter to me.
