1. Provide a summary of your academic record.
I have kept a consistent average thereabouts of 90% through high school, and have IB certificates in math and physics from last year, which results in my having few academic classes this year. However I have taken electives in many areas, from arts to music to computers, to languages and have performed equally well in them.

2. What are your plans for the future?
I plan to study chemical engineering at the University of Alberta, and to work abroad in the petrochemical industry after I complete my degree. On a broader scale I wish to make the world a more meaningful place by drawing from the traditions, experiences, and lifestyles of our ancestors and applying these to a modern society.

3. What are your contributions to the school and to the community?
Although I have been a peer tutor and have written for the school newspaper, and am a member of the speech and debate club, the school choir, and the Youth Volunteer Corps [outside of school], I don't feel that those are my greatest contributions. My greatest contribution comes not in membership in a club or a group but from one individual to other individuals. Peers who have gotten to know me well have remarked that my presence in their lives has made them more introspective people who have realized that, to live life to the fullest, the questions 'why do I do the things I do?' and 'what do I believe in?' need to be answered. This is my contribution to the people around me. I believe that society functions best when we are reflective people, and I am making the world a better place in this way, one person at a time.

4. What single adjective would describe you? Why?
Idiosyncratic - which means to be of a peculiar and individual character. I know I am very different. I don't behave in a way that can be considered in any way as "mainstream." Many people even find me strange and peculiar for that, in how I place my priorities on understanding the world rather than on, for example, getting an active social life. That's why I think that "idiosyncratic" is a perfect word to describe me.

5. What is your definition of a valedictory address? What do you think is your role as a valedictorian?
Not only does a valedictory speech provide a reflection on the high school experience, it should also convey a message to all who hear it, not only the graduands -- possibly a message of moral importance and something to continue to strive for in our lives. The role of the valedictorian is to deliver such a message. Such an academically accomplished person should have the ability to do that. I personally think that being a representative of the class is a little less important than having and being able to express a powerful message.

6. Why do you want to be a valedictorian? How do you see yourself representing the graduands?
Simply put, I want to be a valedictorian because I have a message for everyone to hear. It is also because although I'm academic-minded, I've also experienced things that your typical academist probably would not, and would represent elements of the rest of the school population too. I've lost homework, forgotten to do homework, failed tests, tried to sleep in class, skipped class, got kicked out of class -- and I'm just being honest! Nobody's perfect!

7. What does being an SWC graduate mean to you?
The name has a certain amount of prestige about it (as long as it's not confused with the one in Lethbridge or the one in Vancouver). It represents that I've been through a quality high school education, even though I don't necessarily agree with and embody the characteristics of our namesake. Lastly, being a graduate means that I will be prepared to move on to the next stages of my life and independence, and more opportunities to change the world.
