This morning I woke up okay. In fact I was so tired last night I didn't even finish writing in my diary when I fell asleep, and I totally didn't remember what I wrote until I looked at it this morning (and thus realized I stopped in the middle of a sentence).

I went to classes today with the drawing of the Finnish lion I made yesterday tacked to my backpack. I really hate it when people start jumping up and down and screaming whenever Canada scores, when they're watching the game on a TV. I mean, it's okay if you're actually at the arena, but when you're not and there's only one supporter of the other team in the room you'd think it's only courtesy to give a little respect for the other little voice in the room. Patriotism isn't about sports. Because I support a team that's not my own country doesn't mean I should be put down for it. It's almost like the American administration calling people anti-American for not supporting the war in Iraq. (Then again, I don't like to consider myself Canadian either, but that's another story.)

I got the phone line working in my room for the morning, but I didn't have time to set up my answering machine message. So I decided to go set up my ADSL modem right after lunch (Um, [livejournal.com profile] kp_mike, if the time that you wrote down on the note is correct, I was home at that time...hm...next time knock harder :P), but then I ran into some technical difficulty, so I had to call Telus and tell them to fix it (which they will in a few days *sigh*). Then I did the message on my answering machine, which I based off that annoying Engineering cheer (it rhymes).

Then I took a break, in which a different Telus guy came up to set up Dana's phone line.

At this time I take my computer down to the living room and get online with the wireless connection to jot down the toll-free number for the federal customs agency. When I got back to my room after that, I was about to phone customs about the whole, you know, thing. But I pick up the phone and WTF, the dial tone is gone!

Dana wasn't home yet so I borrowed her phone to tell Telus about *that* problem.

I go down to the mall to pick up the post. I see the note [livejournal.com profile] kp_mike left on the door. In the post was a thicker envelope, also official-looking Canada stationary. Basically, it says what I've already deduced so far - that it's prohibited, can't have it, get it out of our faces, etc.

I've got three choices: write for an appeal (now why would I, they know what a prohibited weapon is better than I do), forfeit it to the Crown (which is what happens if I don't do anything about it), or pay to have it shipped back to the US.

Now, I know how much knifey wants it back, because it was so expensive and all, but paying for a bonded courier to ship it back is more money than it's worth, you know. So I don't have a choice. Sorry, guys, but it's a goner. At this point I'll thank (other) Mike (a.k.a. Recca on ibscrewed) for his generous donation of a similar, but legal, knife from his collection. Pretty sure it's legal because he probably bought it in Canada or had it imported here, and it's not like it's going to cross national borders to get to me here in Edmonton from back there in Calgary.

Anyway: back to what I did. I take the computer down again to the living room, but now I can't even get on the internet with my wireless connection! It connects, and I can log in with my CNS account, but I can't use the internet. :(

And so I'm here in Rutherford South, the same room in which [livejournal.com profile] kp_mike wrote his latest entry. I'm not crazy enough to think that I'm using the same computer as he was.

I'm waiting until 4:00, when the first handbell choir meeting takes place. I got into both the handbells and the choir, but I'm considering dropping handbells (as much as I want to play them) because everyone has to be there for handbells to work but I can't make it to one of the concerts because I have to do my physics labs.

As for choir, it's a much larger time committment (4 hours practice a week, plus concerts), but most of the formal concerts are optional and it comes with the whole "we'll arrange social events for you" deal. Plus, I already paid the fees for choir yesterday. Not that I'll really have a choice over what to sing here either, but hopefully I'll get to know some people who would be interested in forming our own little ensemble to sing Finnish songs :p

I already feel so busy. At least if I have choir practice every Wednesday night and Saturday morning, my Saturdays won't feel boring and I won't be suckered into being carnivorous and eating chicken wings as a meal. If I had to walk that distance to the pub, I might as well walk just as many blocks to Buddy Wonton's Chinese Restaurant for cheap complete Chinese meals.
