Return of the Fan-Club

kyrasantaeClass started a bit late today on account of people being at the nightclub last night, which left lunch really shortened. I had suggested previously to have a karaoke event, and so my teacher announced that she was going today and asked if people were interested in joining. Just me, it seemed.
So after a quick nap for my poor battered feet, Johanna and I walked to the karaoke bar, taking a bit of a more scenic route than just going through downtown. It took about 40 minutes to get there.
Oh, speaking of downtown, my TTR:N game came in today so I went to pick it up.
Anyway, we met my instructor at the bar, which is called "Saloon Wankkuri" (*snigger*) and is probably the only such place in town. Cover is 2€. Bring ID. At first there weren't a lot of people, so I warmed up by singing "Nemo" in exchange for a beer from J. Then I did "Koneeseen kadonnut" (to great applause) which went okay except for the missing word in the lyrics which threw me off the rhythm right at the very end. When I finished my beer, I did "Pohjolan yö", and then the weirdness began. It went a lot better than the previous time I performed this song [at iHouse], and when I got back to my seat, an older lady from a table at the centre of the room came up and kneeled on the floor in front of me, then said a bunch of stuff in Finnish. After stammering out what should have come out as "anteeksi, en ymmärrä suomea", exasperated gasps of "how did you do that?! Where are you from?" bubbled out. Her entire table had shouted "uudelleen!" ("encore!") when I had finished singing, apparently. She took me to their table, where I explained that I had only been in Finland for 4 days to all of the group of middle-aged women. (Karaoke is more of an older people's thing here.) Nobody could believe it because they were all convinced that I must have lived here for years. (Even my instructor remarked that my singing pronunciation was impeccable.) but they insisted on hearing me again, so I guess I was under some pressure to sing another oldies song. I decided to do "Joutsenlaulu" [this is an absolute classic that EVERY Finn knows and loves] but shortly after I turned in my slip, some other young woman sings it! (it wasn't that good, though). So I got myself a salmiakkikossu (this one was in a vodka glass so it was bigger) >_< and I think J has a video of me drinking it. Actually, I don't remember if that was before or after I sang "Pohjolan yö". I think before. Anyhow, after that last song, the lady came back to get my email address to send her photos of me ... uh... to me, and then I really had to go as my instructor was leaving and I was really tired too.
About 10 minutes after I drank that shot I felt suddenly hit with a bat of dizziness and couldn't quite see straight for a moment or two. Fortunately it was gone before I had to sing. My instructor said maybe I have to change the line on my assignment where I wrote "en tykkää juoda viinaa" but I said, just because I drank it doesn't mean I like it :P
Karaoke is really a much more enjoyable experience when you know the songs that other people are singing. Then you can sing along, or clap, or dance, and you can actually judge if people are singing well or not.
Getting home we look a long forest/lakeside path. I think the sky was darkest between 12:30 and 1:30, but it never got completely dark.
