Experiments in Harmony
Jun. 7th, 2006 09:59 pmA couple of Ayreon songs...
Valley of the Queens (2.3MB) - it's not particularly in tune, but I just wanted to see if it were possible to sing with myself (I recorded the harmonies first on this song)
Carried by the Wind (4.5MB) - I recorded the melody first this time. The harmony lines on the original song are much harder for me to hear so I made my own. I made it different for every verse (I think it's the same every verse on the original), though each verse it progressively becomes nearer to the original harmony line :P
Yeah...if the melody line is familiar to me, I really need the harmony line written out on paper before I can really sing it properly. I improvised these ones more or less on the fly.
In choir it's not a problem, because I never really become familiar with the melody. In fact, when I listen to the CD recording of our concert, that's the first time I can actually hear how the song sounds like as a whole.
