Reasons why U of C is better than here (correct me, Odd Boy. Just leave a comment, as usual):
  • Their ESS serves up cheap beer on Fridays.
  • Their buildings are open 24/7 (most of them? some of them?), so you can hand in homework that is due Monday morning on Sunday.
  • Their buildings are all connected with passages that are actually open for public use (we used to have underground passages, but ever since they got the nickname 'rape tunnels' they've been closed)
  • Their buildings are all *normal* unlike the BioSci building here (it was built by several contracting companies that didn't coordinate their plans so legend has it that there are doors and staircases leading nowhere and stuff like that. It's also practically half-underground despite it being one of the larger buildings.)
  • Students get a bus pass packaged into their student ID card.
  • They get an Engg frosh week (but this, I'll admit, appeals only to those who like having more outrageous fun than I do)
  • Odd Boy's first semester only has one course with "real" labs.
I'm not going back though. Living at home (with parents) would prevent me from taking advantage of most of these things. Like if it weren't for the fact that I'm here, I wouldn't be drinking Finlandia. Or inviting total strangers to my apartment. Or going to the apartments of people I met on MSN. Or (not) freaking people out by carrying my knife with me. Or people trying to mail me knives at all. Besides, they didn't offer me any money.

Oh, and I keep forgetting to mention this: I feel like Antonuk anytime I'm carrying my keys around my neck (which is most of the time, since I keep my bedroom door locked so my keys must be with me in case a draft slams the door shut while I'm out).

Today I smelled 95% ethanol. It smelled strangely enough like the bottle of Dutch vodka which is still sitting in my closet (there's thankfully not much left in it). I can drink more Finlandia and not feel tipsy than I can of that. Has to do with the quality, I bet.

We got to set up a vacuum filter, which is why today's lab sucked.

Enrico (霍永基), my chem lab TA, gave me a chocolate bar for correctly guessing his age. He was also wearing the lab coat his friends decorated for him, which is why I know his Chinese name. He's also a member of the Chinese Students' Club, which means he'll probably bug me about something or other every time the club has a meeting. And I get to bug him in Chinese all through my labs.

P.S. Oh dear. Some girls just sang 'Happy Birthday' waaaaay out of tune.
