Odd items for sale [journal]
Jul. 16th, 2004 11:10 pmThere's some blue sky through the cloud, but everything in the distance looks so foggy. I think it's probably smog. It's hardly 9:30 and it's already about 35°C outside.
14:05 -- Today we did lots of shopping. I've noticed some interesting items and things that (of course) we didn't buy.
19:55 -- Dinner was at a Chinese restaurant in the middle of Shinjuku (新宿), which happens to be a red-light district in Tokyo. Oh, great. Just as long as I don't run into any strippers. Dinner was, to say the least, strenuous. It's the stuffy climate and fatigue -- yesterday I slept so early (21:00 or thereabouts) simply because I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. I shifted around in my seat for a comfortable position but as soon as I found one I wanted to shut-eye. Anyway, I just didn't want to eat.
21:20 -- After more shopping, I don't feel like I can stand up. The main streets of Shinjuku turn out to be like Wall St. or Times Square, but with more streets. And more people. Didn't see any strippers (that's good!); maybe they're on the side streets. Not that I care. Got a really nice surf t-shirt and tried green tea soft ice cream this afternoon.
23:05 -- Some last words before I sleep: Today I felt so melancholy and so miserable. It's just so intimidating when I'm so far away in a place that doesn't speak English. Tried to alleviate boredom by singing songs from choir becuase it's all I really feel comfortable singing just barely loud enough for people to hear. Dammit, I really want to slit someone's throat right now. No particular reason. But no knives or even scissors in sight right now and my eyelids are suddenly drooping again. Time to sleep and try to generate some productive fantasies.

- toy wooden katanas with matching sheathes (balsa wood, or something else similarly lightweight). They look a little fragile.
- toy [air?] pistols. I don't know what they look like in in box, but on the box is a pretty damn realistic picture. Not a photo, but pretty damn realistic. And lifesize. So what's it like in the box?!
- bathroom scales. They only go up to 120 lbs. Even I'm 115 lbs...
- a wall poster with photos of people doing stuff in toilet stalls. Smoking, drinking, using the toilet,...um...okay. "Toilet Cam."
- kleenex box cover table case thingy. Designed to be stood upright on a table, the design is of an Easter Island statue, and the issue comes out its nose.
