My German textbook finally came in; it's a custom-bound (paperback) edition so it's not 100% of the book as it was originally published (doesn't include the last 4 chapters). It still cost me $165, though I use it for the entire year rather than just the semester.

I don't want to imagine the time and cost it takes to scan in every page of a book and print it on nice color-photocopy-from-Office-Depot paper, and I understand that the stupid online learning service costs like $40US, but it's only paperback and...

yeah, I was expecting more considerable savings... not to mention I can pretty much doze through the grammar in the first three chapters and a bit of the fourth. The vocabulary (esp. nouns) I don't know, but it's certainly not going to be very useful for my personal writing. :(

As there is always a sale (20% off) on all non-textbook language reference books in September, I stood there pondering buying this too (I have the Finnish grammar book in the same series) but they're asking quite a bit of money for it (even with the discount) and so I decided not to for the time being. In combination with a dictionary, it'd probably serve my own purposes better :/
