How likely is it that I know this piece? Sounds like just the kind of musical exercise I've been longing for, but initially nothing is coming to mind.

It's a crappy transcription of the accompaniment to an acoustic version of a rock song which I heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago (gasp, me, listen to the radio?!). So I'm guessing it's current enough to still be on radio rotation.

If by "jump on the LJ train" you mean "sign up for an ID but still blog over at Blogspot", then yes, absolutely.
