Talk about ambitious
Jun. 25th, 2006 02:23 amI only wanted to fix a few timing problems where I wasn't following the music, but, to my disappointment, my master recordings died from the compression.
Only theflute tin whistle bit and the chanting bits survived the compression, so I ended up recording all of the singing parts again, plus the 'hooooweeeeeeeeooooooooooeeeeiiiiii' part. That part sounds so much better this time, and no cheating by using the same recording twice (ha, bet you didn't notice the first time).
Added a few extra tracks, like a full doubling of the main voice over the last choruses.
Fixed also the weird slide I was doing at "not a war but an unfair fight."
The low bit at "our souls will..." sounds better now (partly because it was the first thing I redid)
I saved everything as .wav files this time (it's not perfect, of course, but in my experience .wav format hasn't crapped up any of my files yet).
This link will work in just a moment: CMB Remake!
Edit: Gack, something's weird with the audio levels in the speech at the end. Maybe it got corrupted too. I'll have to record that again later. Maybe I won't stumble as much this time :P

At this time I felt that I should quote to you readers something that was on my first post in the NW forum:
"I know and do realize that my voice isn't really all that great. It's raw and rough around the edges."
...and I like it that way.
I think the rawness works with this song. At least one of the other versions I've heard makes the song into some sort of a "let's show off some high notes" contest. They do interesting things to make the song unique to themselves (a new melodic line, changing some of the notes, using a different tone, and so on). I do interesting things too, but to dress up the song more like the original without having the resources of the original. The original song does not challenge the upper register and I sure didn't want to make it into something to that effect. I feel that showing off high notes-ness is somewhat detrimental to the emotions in the song... it doesn't contribute to it. There are times and places for that sort of thing, and this song isn't one of them.
Right. So I'm bitter.
The trouble with my singing is that only half of my emotions are in what you hear. The other half is in what you see. And you aren't able to see me when I'm doing this.
