Jul. 17th, 2005 12:33 amHurting yourself for others is heroic, hurting yourself for yourself is foolish, so they say. Now, there's masochism, but there's also putting yourself through hurt in order to achieve a goal. In that, where is the line between interpreting it as perseverance or foolishness?

"Mind-breaking numbness" is what I've chosen to use to describe that feeling that makes you sit doing absolutely nothing for stretches of hours, even if there is something else that actually needs to be done.

What's the use of a convention of protocol that no longer exposes your abilities but exposes your ability to BS an exposition of those abilities?
I don't like BS-ing. It's not that I don't do it, but that I avoid it as much as possible. I think a lot of people perceive it as some kind of necessary evil, and that's fairly accurate, but your changes of getting a job shouldn't ride on that ability to BS. Surely someone out there appreciates stark honesty, even if it may reveal some deficiencies.

There exists no body that enforces society's rules of interaction -- therefore do not necessarily feel obligated by those rules. Adhering too constantly and closely to those rules stifles openness and genuine respect.
Sometimes we keep feelings to ourselves because it would hurt someone to express them -- but isn't that what causes gossip, holes in walls, downcastness, and other self-destructive behaviours?
I don't know about you, but although it may be normal procedure to say "thank you," it doesn't mean anything to both the speaker or the listener unless the speaker really does feel thankful.

Happiness does not require religion, or rituals, or mythology. It may contain them, but they are not required. It requires being the master of your own destiny, making decisions on your own terms, within the accepted limits of society. It requires never submitting your body and spirit to domination and control by someone else.

So often phrases of appreciation are thrown around as courtesy, that true appreciation can no longer be recognized.

One who does not know either my internal or my external struggle does not know me. But what does it mean to know? That -> I do not have an answer for.
